Bio
I can tell parents that I believe that all children are gifts from God and that we adults, whether parent or other, have to go out of our way to insure all interaction with children are positive and constructive in nature.
I'm a strong believer in education and that being educated means having had a good grounding in what we traditionally call a liberal arts education - in other words, all of the traditional subjects should be taught to all children and when they are older they can choose which path to take to build a career.
I also know that everyone has a subject they just don't like and usually it's because they haven't caught on to the basics, thus have no foundation to build upon. The best teachers make learning enjoyable and applaud the small successes so that greater sucessful efforts would be forthcoming.
Even the learning disabled and behavorial problem child can have real success when they're in a calm, non-judgmental environment where patience and understanding is the norm.
As to my background - I have an AAS in Business Administration from NYU, a BA in Public Accounting with a double minor in law and computers earned at NYU and finishing up at Pace University. I have a Masters Degree in Studio Art earned at NYU. I have taken far too many computer classes to list here that were outside of university settings as they were mostly training classes for new computer systems used by the employers I worked for.
I've taught as many as 6 children in a session ranging in ages from 3 on up to teenagers and as few as one child at a time. Not only do all of my students succeed in their efforts but, they actually come to enjoy the subjects they originally hated.
I teach because each child's successful efforts no matter how small the initial success is, is a gift to me. I experience the same joy every parent does when their child has mastered something. The smile, pride and confidence you see on a child's face when they finally get fractions, algebra or any element of a subject is truly worth more than gold.
Lets see, I have 12 cats, adore all creatures and am comfortable teaching in the student's home or other after school type settings.
I've probably gone on long enough - please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I'd be happy to answer them.
